Description: The Photograph as an Art Object explores photography as an expressive, artistic medium, broadly considered, within the realm of visual art. Throughout its comparatively brief but deeply impactful history, photography as a discipline has taken on private, public, personal, documentarian, historical, and artistic dimensions; has adapted and flourished on a variety of technological fronts; and has, in many ways, become an accessible medium that shapes identity and captures everyday experience. This exhibition prompts artists and viewers to contemplate what it means to approach photography as an expressive, artistic medium much like painting, sculpture, printmaking, or fiber arts – and yet, to consider and embrace its unique and broad capacities as a an artform and technology. Open to artists in the Midwest - IL, IN, IA, MI, OH, KY, WI, MO, MN.

The Arts Center will not be held responsible for artwork left more than 45 days from the last day of pick-up. If alternative arrangements are not made for pick up, and artwork is left past 45 days, artwork becomes the property of the Arts Center, without further notification.

Join us for the opening reception of Larry Jon Davis' Retrospective Exhibition at the Galesburg Community Arts Center on Friday, April 18 from 5-7pm!
Celebrate a lifetime of artwork and stylistic evolution, spanning both the 1st floor and 2nd floor galleries. This exhibition will feature a range of representative paintings, prints, and drawings by Larry from throughout his creative and professional career, and will remain on view through May 31, 2025.
Larry will make comments about the work around 5:30pm, to be followed by a dedication of the Larry Jon & Jacquelyn Harvey Davis Printmaking Studio on our 3rd floor.
Light refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public.

The Knox Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Justin Haynes and the Galesburg High School Gold and Silver Jazz Bands under the direction of Dena Baity and Matt Welch perform at Jazz night at the Galesburg Community Arts Center.

A curated selection of works from the GCAC’s GALEX 58 National Exhibition will be presented by Tiffany, our guest auctioneer, in a Sotheby’s style auction. The focus is on contemporary artwork by national, regional, and local artists. This live auction will be an event for collectors and spectators alike! Open to the public. No requirement to bid.
Join us for a FREE live open mic night on Saturday, February 8 from 6-8pm! Cash bar available. Any original piece of work may be performed — a song, poem, prose sample, or bit of comedy (appropriate for the public, PG-13). We will have a mic and speaker set up — however, no additional sound equipment will be provided. (Any musical performances should be acoustic.) Drop in anytime throughout the night to listen, snap along, or perform your masterpiece!
You may bring in your own simple audio equipment that can be plugged into an extension cord. However, please do not bring in any equipment that requires extensive setup!
