Soft Sculpture Constellation — Big Read: The Bear

Drop in on April 30th for our final activity inspired by Andrew Krivak's The Bear!

Create your own soft sculpture inspired by the stars that guide us. Fuse creativity with celestial navigation by ironing on raw canvas to reveal intricate constellations, adding bursts of color with fabric pastels, and bringing the sparkle of the night sky with shiny stars. With each stitch and stuff, you'll sculpt a unique piece that can stand as a beautiful display or double as a decorative pillow. Unleash your imagination and bring the cosmos into your home with this captivating activity!

Intro to Gouache with Raphael Iaccarino

Gouache Workshop with Raphael Iaccarino

Though similar to watercolor, Gouache is often preferred by many artists due to its opacity. It can be re-wet and reworked and doesn't require transparency or the white of the paper for light, though is often used in tandem with watercolors. Beloved artist and instructor Raphael Iaccarino will help you to explore and discover this unique medium. It may just become your new personal favorite! This class is suitable for beginners as well as those who are looking to build their skills and techniques. All materials provided.

Geomorphic Zen Mosaic: In Tandem with Nature

Join us on April 16th for our 2nd activity inspired by Andrew Krivak's The Bear!

Geomorphism is the study of the changing earth: how water, wind, ice and other elements keep our planet in constant flux.

For this project, participants will create a panel combining man-made and nature-provided materials. Upon completion, attendees have the option to keep their piece inside and enjoy the work as is, or to place it outdoors and allow nature to take over and continue working on it.

If you allow nature to collaborate it starts to change. Watercolors run. Colors fade. The cardboard base breaks down and what is left are the rocks, shells, sand, glass…the natural materials.
