Gia Tkabladze

I was born in Kutaisi, Georgia. In 1990 I received a College Degree with Distinction, at Nikoladze Arts College (Sculpture dept.) in Tbilisi, Georgia. In 1996, I received my Masters Degree in Sculpture, from Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, (Sculpture dept.) in Georgia. After graduation, I was invited to be a senior lecturer of sculpture and drawing at the State Institute of Culture department of Fine and Decorative/Applied Art where I taught until 1999. I also served as the Chairman of the Young Sculptors' Union of Georgia during 1998-2001. After the 2001 Studios Midwest residency, I was able to eventually gain U.S. resident status and bring my family to reside with me in Virginia. 

Since 1993 I have participated in more than forty national and international exhibitions and received numerous awards and grants such as: “Best Virginia artists 2005," First place in sculpture category, Awarded by Kennedy Promotions, VA, USA; “Marry H. Phillips award” 2006, Awarded by the Pittsburgh Society of Sculptors, PA. USA; and “The Best Work of the Year 1997" awarded by Georgian Artists’ Union of Georgia.
