Marjorie Blackwell – 2007 Studios Midwest Artist
While at Studios Midwest in 2007 my intended focus was on making larger versions of my molded pour paintings (extending from my "Untraversed Terrains" series), but given the great amount of down time while waiting for layers to dry I also One of the things I re-explored while at Studios Midwest in 2007 was drawing with graphite. I had a collection of dead day lilies I had saved them to draw because their forms are so fascinating. There were lilies in the yard where we stayed, too, so I drew some alive as well. This year I am continuing to draw both living and dead flowers, particularly varieties of lilies. I'm thinking that in the future I'll draw them larger and integrateing them into my abstract acrylic paintings. For now I'm enjoying the preciousness and personal-ness of the small size which you can hold in your hand and explore as you would the actual flower.
