The Galesburg Civic Art League was established in 1923 to promote the visual arts in Galesburg. The organization had no home until the building at 114 East Main was purchased in 1965.
The Galesburg Civic Art Center, as it is now known, continues the tradition to promote the visual arts in Galesburg, through exhibitions, a gift gallery, Art in the Park, Black Earth Film Festival, Studios Midwest Residency Program as well as other special events throughout the year. The Art Center's mission is to educate, enhance and enrich.

EDUCATE
Develop and maintain quality exhibits and programs that both entertain and visually challenge the community.

ENHANCE
Increase visual awareness.

ENRICH
Cultivate and develop appreciation for the visual arts.

"But Art is not easy. It requires thought, consideration, commitment, and more often than not, a willingness to go beyond the boundaries of the mainstream." - Chicago Tribune, 1998
